Abstract

The effects of conjugated linoleic acids (9 cis, 11 cis-linoleic acid and 10 trans, 12 cis-linoleic acid) and 9 cis, 12 cis-linoleic acid on apolipoprotein B (apoB) secretion and on the synthesis of triglycerides and cholesterol were assessed in HepG2 cells. ApoB secretion by cells treated with 10 μM 10 trans, 12 cis-linoleic acid for 24 h was decreased markedly when compared with that by cells exposed to 9 cis, 12 cis-linoleic acid, while cells treated with 9 cis, 11 cis-linoleic acid were not affected. 10 trans, 12 cis-linoleic acid inhibited cellular triglyceride and cholesteryl ester synthesis, but 9 cis, 11 cis-linoleic acid had no effect on triglyceride synthesis. The present study showed that the two conjugated linoleic acids had different influences on apoB and lipid metabolism. Compared with 9 cis, 12 cis-linoleic acid, 10 trans, 12 cis-linoleic acid inhibited cellular triglyceride synthesis and reduced apoB secretion.
