Abstract

In Chapter 10 a comprehensive theory of sound transmission in buildings is developed. This begins with diffuse field theory for single- and multi-panel partitions. Transmission into reverberant as well as absorptive receiving spaces is addressed. The next section reviews laboratory and field measurements of the sound transmission loss and the results of these measurements in various single, staggered, and double wood and metal stud walls. The discussion then moves on to direct field transmission loss problems. It principally details exterior to interior sound transmission. Laboratory data on walls, windows, doors, and the effects of penetrations are presented.
