Abstract

Nanodentistry is the latest outcome of nanotechnology that has been beneficial for diagnostic procedures, treatment, and prevention of oral and dental diseases. The word nano is from the Greek word “nanos” meaning dwarf and is used to describe materials whose molecular size lies in the range of 0–100nm. It employs a comprehensive approach toward maintenance of oral health by various advancements in technology like nanomaterials, tissue engineering, and nanomedicine. Hence, a new era of painless dentistry with nanobased technology is in progress for better treatment of gum problems, dental caries, tooth hypersensitivity, rapid and painless correction of malaligned tooth, and disinfection of root canals. Various modalities for tooth remineralization, bony defect correction, and oral cancer has also been brought forth by nanodentistry.
