Abstract

Cervical radiculopathy is the result of compression of the cervical nerve root leading to pain and/or sensorimotor deficit. This results from disc herniation, spondylosis, trauma, and occasionally tumors. The most common cause of cervical radiculopathy is disc herniation. While majority of acute disc herniations will improve without surgical intervention, a small number of patients with neurological deficit may require early surgical intervention. When surgical intervention is indicated, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion or posterior foraminotomy and discectomy are potential treatment options.
