Abstract

Proton nonelastic cross sections were obtained near 10 Mev from Be, C, Al, Ti, Mo, Zr, Fe, Ni, Zn, Cu, V, Rh, Nb, Ag, Sn, Ta, Th, Au, and Pb. The most significant features of the data are the appearance of a minimum in the vicinity of nuclei with Z = 28 protons, an anomalously low cross section for carbon, and a systematic deviation from optical model predictions for heavier elements. Proton reaction cross sections from both volume and surface absorption predictions are compared to experimental values. (H.D.R.)
