Abstract

Lithium-ion batteries are mostly used in portable devices as well as in electric vehicles due to their benefits such as excellent rate performance, low price, high energy density, environmental friendliness, and good cycle life. Presently LiCoO2 is used as a cathode and graphite as an anode material in lithium-ion batteries. However, it does not fulfill the requirements for future devices or for electric vehicles. There is an urgent need for alternate electrode materials to satisfy the requirements of the ever-growing industries of the modern world. Nanocomposites have now been extensively researched for lithium-ion batteries electrodes due to their advantages of high structural stability and excellent conductivity. Nanocomposites of different materials can improve the performance of lithium-ion batteries. In this chapter different nanocomposites electrode materials are discussed in detail. In conclusion, nanocomposites solve the issues related to lithium-ion batteries. Nanocomposites also improve the lifetime, safety, storage capacity, and cycle performance of lithium-ion batteries.
