Abstract

AbstractThe Overdrive technology is frequently used for speeding up the response time and improving the motion blur of LCD panel in FPD industry. Most of them try to generate Overdrive Look‐Up Table (OD‐LUT) by calculation on Gray Level (G‐G or GTG) Response Curve (GLRC) or manually tuning by human eyes. The first method cannot find the results equivalent to the human visual perception, and the inefficiency and uncontrollable stability of the second way derive the other questions. Therefore, how to systematically generate reliable optimal OD‐LUT becomes an important issue. In this paper, we not only propose an automatic system to recursively search the optimal OD‐LUT according to the Moving Picture Response Time (MPRT) of LCD, but also we further discuss how the different MPRT indexes derived from Moving Edge Blur and Box Motion Blur affect the performance of OD‐LUT Optimization Process. Furthermore, some thresholding methods for the amount of overshoot and undershoot are compared here. The experiments show that the Gamma‐Based Threshold can effectively control the strength of side effect (or double edge) that human eye will sense almost the same intensity difference on each gray level.
