Abstract
Various applications of ultraintense laser fields in particle physics, nuclear science, and quantum electrodynamics are presented. We discuss laser-driven lepton-pair creation, photon splitting, high-harmonic generation from both vacuum and muonic atoms, and direct nuclear excitation. All of these processes may come into experimental reach by near-future laser technology.
