Abstract

A new design of a multistrip coupler (MC) with an aperiodic electrode structure for surface-acoustic-wave devices is proposed. The coupler can operate as a former of frequency-modulated signals or as a high-selectivity bandpass filter. The equations for coupled surface acoustic waves that can be used for calculation of the frequency characteristics of the MCs with aperiodic electrode structures and known MC designs are derived. The feasibility of devices for formation and compression of frequency-modulated signals and bandpass filters designed on the basis of such MCs is experimentally verified. The experimental results and the results of calculations performed on the basis of the proposed theory of frequency characteristics of MCs are presented. Frequency characteristics of devices designed on the basis of MCs with an aperiodic electrode structure agree well with experimental data.
