Abstract

An extension of the circular Fourier analysis of the mode field is presented that makes it possible to obtain a successively correctable solution to the scalar waveguide problem posed for 3D optical waveguides. The critical frequencies of rectangular and elliptic waveguides, as well as the characteristics of leaky modes in microstructural optical fibers formed by elliptical air channels, are studied.
