Abstract

A partial form of atrioventricular septal defect was observed in a 28-day-old male Japanese Black calf. In this heart, the lower portion of the interatrial septum and the inlet portion of the interventricular septum were deficient, and clefts were present in both the septal leaflets of the left and right atrioventricular valves. The anterior and posterior bridging leaflets of the atrioventricular valves were joined by a connecting valve tissue tocreate separate left and right atrioventricular orifices. A large interventricular communication was present from beneath the atrioventricular valves to the crest of the ventricular septum.
