Abstract

Technical and business style is purposeful, factual, and precise. In each discipline and category in technology and business, there is a specific terminology and style of communication. The technical and business communicator gives body to the language as the circumstances require. This kind of language functions best in a day-to-day communication. Long and clumsy sentences, incorrect spelling, and the wrong word used in the wrong place will damage communication and could lead to confusion of thought. To avoid confusion resulting from bad communication, the communicator must follow certain principles to avoid awkward language and stylistic errors. Writing effectively for business entails a correct and specialized style. This chapter also discusses the important principles or requirements of correct style, such as clarity, simplicity, naturalness, purposefulness, originality, and conciseness.
