Abstract

Qur'anic readings are a domain that reveals the link between linguistic enquiry and the study of the Qur'an, which the sources highlight. The data which the philologists recorded on the authority of the Bedouin fusaha provided much of the raw material for the early monographs that dealt with garib and nawadir or with specific semantic fields. The last few decades witnessed remarkable interest in the study of the Arabic Linguistic Tradition and a surge in the number of articles and books dealing with various aspects of this tradition. Throughout the long history of the grammatical and lexicographical traditions, the two fields, visibly, had a complementary relationship. One of the prime objectives of the present book is to bring into light the complementarity of the two fields as well as the effect of early grammatical works on the content of mubawwab lexica in particular. Keywords: Arabic Linguistic Tradition; Bedouin; garib; lexicographical traditions; Qur'an
