Abstract

After a brief discussion of modern demands for colour, attention is focused on the dyeing of Acrilan 16 acrylic fibre as loose stock, yarn, or fabric. Dyeing of blends of Acrilan with rayon or with wool is then considered and detailed procedures are given. In the section on the dyeing of nylon fibres, emphasis is concentrated on the three types of Cumuloft fibre– regular, deep–dyeing, and ultra–deep–dyeing– used in the manufacture of carpets, and it is demonstrated how three colours can be obtained on such blends in one operation. The final section deals with stretch fabrics, those made from spandex fibres being compared, in respect of dyeing methods and test methods, with those made from nylon.
