Abstract

Although conflict with parents was previously viewed as part of typical adolescent development, high levels of conflict are not normative and are often present alongside adolescent mental health problems, including depression. Secondary analyses of data from clinical trials suggests that parent-adolescent conflict may be a major factor that limits adolescent response to evidence-based depression treatments. However, no existing interventions have demonstrated efficacy for reducing the parent-adolescent relationship problems commonly present in adolescents with depression.
