Abstract

A pulsed high power HBr chemical laser of output energy of 1.4 J and peak power of about 1 MW at wavelengths between 4.0-4.7 um has been designed and constructed. Characteristics of output energy, oscillation wavelength and waveforms are measured and discussed concerning with the variations of the mixing ratio of the component gases and applied voltage, dependency of reflectance of output mirrors and plasma length. The effects of additions of He and Ar are also discussed. The addition of Ar is found to be effective to obtain the high output energy.
