Abstract

Abstract 1, 4‐Dichlorobenzene is included on the List of Priority Substances to be assessed under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Available data on exposure of the general population in Canada and potential health effects were critically evaluated. On the basis of available data, 1,4‐dichlorobenzene has been classified as “possibly carcinogenic to humans”. The estimated average daily intakes of 1,4‐dichlorobenzene for the various age groups in the general population in Canada are approximately 15 to 20 times less than the tolerable daily intake derived from inhalation studies in laboratory animals.
