Abstract

Historically, insurance coverage for ASD services has been limited. In response, many states have implemented Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) waivers to expand Medicaid eligibility and covered services for individuals with ASD. Although previous studies have shown that these waivers reduce unmet health care needs, little is known about their impact on Medicaid expenditures for children with ASD, which has important implications for other states considering implementing waivers.
