Abstract
Body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), such as hair pulling and skin picking, appear to have many similarities to the stereotypies seen in ASD. BFRBs are common in children and adults with ASD, and conversely, ASD appears to be common in children and adolescents with BFRBs. Recognizing the similarities in clinical presentation between ASD and BFRBs may provide clues regarding a shared pathophysiology and improved treatment options.
