Abstract
This program will discuss the laws and standards designed to protect the rights of children in federal immigration custody. There are challenges in the current Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) system that are resulting in inappropriate conditions, a lack of trauma-informed services and supports, and missed opportunities to address the mental health needs of migrant children. Participants will learn about how child and adolescent psychiatrists can support efforts to improve mental health services for migrant children while in ORR custody and once released to family members.
