Abstract

In the United States, fewer than 10% of 1.3 million youth who meet criteria for substance use disorders (SUDs) receive treatment. Research has shown that schools can provide an ideal setting for providing substance abuse education, conducting screening and interventions, and even providing outpatient treatment for youth. This project evaluates the implementation and efficacy of a novel substance abuse prevention program, adapted from The Neuroscience of Addiction curriculum (NOA), at several San Francisco Bay Area high schools.
