Abstract

Youth in homeless families with a history of parental substance use disorders (SUDs) are at increased risk of mental health problems, substance use, and later homelessness. Despite the problem of family homelessness in the United States, there is a dearth of interventions for homeless families with parental SUDs; little is known about the needs of these families. We conducted interviews with homeless parents, homeless youth, and service providers of homeless to understand the stressors, family processes, and recommendations for a family intervention.
