Abstract

Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) is a chronic progressive disease which refers to discomfort of the urinary tract organs due to a decrease in sexual hormone secretion in postmenopausal women. The prevalence rate is as high as 50%, and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) such as frequent urination and urination pain may also be related. Most of the GSM remedies approved in Europe and the United States are unapproved in Japan. At this time we will report middle - aged and elderly women with lower urinary tract symptoms because they carried out CO2 fractional laser treatment which is effective for GSM treatment. The Smart Side Square (DKSH JAPAN) was used for 20 postmenopausal patients with GSM findings who were dissatisfied with the conventional therapeutic effects to lower urinary tract symptoms. Irradiations to the vaginal and the vulva regions were performed once a month for three months. Percutaneous anesthesia was performed for 10 minutes before the irradiations. Evaluation was done by vaginal health index before and after, additionally patients completed questionnaire form (OABSS · CLSS · ICIQ - SF).
