Abstract

Vasectomy is a safe, cost-effective form of long-term contraception that is markedly underutilized in the United States (US). Misconceptions and lack of knowledge regarding the procedure in the general population and especially across racial and other demographic groups contribute to this underutilization. Pertinently, nearly three fourths (72%) of internet users have consulted the internet for health-related information[1] and smartphone utilization rates (e.g. access to the internet) in the US are similar across racial groups, presenting an equitable point of intervention and necessitating quality, accessible, and understandable health information on the internet regarding the vasectomy procedure. Nearly three fourths of all US adults say they have used YouTube[2], specifically, magnifying its importance as a source for quality health information regarding the vasectomy procedure and prompting evaluation of its current state.
