Abstract

This study tried to make clear the control factor of CNG ignition. Experiment was carried out using a constant volume vessel. CNG was injected into the vessel and ignited by a spark plug. Flame developments were observed by high-speed schlieren photography. Jet velocity, mixture concentration and temperature distributions were analyzed by CFD computation. Results show that misfire occurs when CNG jet with high velocity blows out reaction region of the flame. Under the condition of extremely high jet velocity, initial flame core is not produced at spark position, leading to misfire. Layout of spark position and multi-stage injection are effective to reduce jet velocity and improve ignitability of CNG jet.
