Abstract

COMP-4, the combination of ginger, Paullinia cupana, muira puama, and L-citrulline, has been shown in rat cavernosal smooth muscle (CSM) cell culture to stimulate the endogenous production of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), nitric oxide (NO) and cGMP. When aged rats were treated long-term with oral COMP-4, this resulted in an increase in CSM content, a decrease in fibrosis and oxidative stress within the corpora, and significant improvement in erectile function.
