Abstract

Peyronie’s disease (PD) is a fibrotic disorder affecting the tunica albuginea, resulting in penile deformities. Surgery remains the gold standard of treatment for deformities once the fibrous plaque has stabilized. Options for surgical management broadly include penile plication (plastic repair), excision and grafting of penile plaque (excision repair), and insertion of penile prosthesis. Decision-making is influenced by the degree of penile curvature, severity of erectile dysfunction, types of penile deformities (penile hourglass or hinge-destabilizing deformities) as well as surgeon experience and patient comorbidities. Limited information is available about the patient population that undergoes treatment of PD and how patient demographics affect decision making.
