Abstract

In 2004 the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) issued the first set of recommendations for Contrast Enhanced UltraSonography (CEUS). At that time the only established indications for CEUS were detection and characterisation of focal liver lesions, and thus the document dealt solely with these applications. Since then the ultrasound community has witnessed a constantly increasing number of new indications for CEUS with a range of different organs and new applications being implemented, and thus EFSUMB has found it necessary to revise the recommendations.
