Abstract

ABSTRACTThe paper presents the issue of unbraced and semi‐rigid steel frames stability with special attention paid to the problem of determining buckling length Lcr of columns in these frames. The paper discusses ways of buckling length determination in frames columns with the use of selected, simplified procedure, as well as numerical method of stability analysis. The presented procedures and the analysis methods were used in calculations of certain steel frames. On the basis of presented results, it has been shown that in many practical cases, the simplified procedure of buckling length determination can give error‐prone results. The issues presented in the paper are important from the practical point of view, and therefore, they should be taken into account in the design process of such frames.
