Abstract

According to the US PRESIDE study, female sexual dysfunction prevalence is estimated to be 40% world-wide (n=31.000). Low sexual desire was the most commonly reported symptom (39%), followed by low arousal (26%), and difficulty with orgasm (21%). While similar statistics have been replicated in Canadian studies, researches have highlighted difference in prevalence of these conditions in Canadian women by marital status. Additionally, as evidenced in literature as well as in current national Canadian sexual wellness health guidelines, open discussion of sexual concerns is not currently addressed by primary care physicians despite success of simple management strategies.
