Abstract
As a participant in 100,000 Lives Campaign of Institute of Healthcare Improvement, a 270-bed Midwestern pediatric-teaching hospital committed to develop a Rapid Response Team (RRT) to prevent further deterioration of patients who are progressively failing outside the intensive care unit (ICU). The challenge of defining a practice that would provide optimal patient outcomes rested in acquiring buy-in from key stakeholders. Recognizing the interdisciplinary impact of RRT, a taskforce of nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists assembled to identify essential elements for success and outline the process plan.
