01: Basic technique of vaginal hysterectomy

Abstract

Demonstrate the basic technique of vaginal hysterectomy. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has recommended the vaginal approach for hysterectomy whenever feasible. Despite better patient outcomes and cost benefits, the rate of vaginal hysterectomy is declining. One contributing factor is lack of training during residency. Our video outlines seven reproducible steps to perform a simple vaginal hysterectomy and can be used to improve resident training and promote learning outside of the operating room. This video can be used as an education tool for residents to learn the steps to successfully perform a simple vaginal hysterectomy.
