Abstract

ABSTRACT: The lumbosacral deficiency can occur with destruction following tumors or from the birth. Stabilization of the spinal column with lumbo-sacral deficiency is a challenge, therefore, developing a customized/innovative implant for a secure and rigid fixation is necessary. Previous fixation devices had some disadvantageous due to fracture and loosening. So, we came up with a new concept which is tuning fork plate for fixation of lumbo-sacral deficient models. This idea was started with a variable screw placement (VSP) system and provides a strong distal fix with screws and is fixed in the lumbar spine proximally. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the mechanical effectiveness of tuning fork plate by comparing with dual iliac screw fixation under different spinal motion through finite element analysis (FEA).
