Abstract

Adolescent with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are at high risk for obesity and metabolic derangements and the weight trajectory seems to deviate very early on before the age of 5. This early rise in BMI (early adiposity rebound) has been shown to be a risk factor for adverse metabolic outcomes later in life in general population. Also, the weight gain from adolescence to adulthood seems to be more rapid in PCOS and the prevalence of PCOS seems to increase along increasing BMI. Also, in PCOS adolescents, high weight and abdominal obesity are risk factors for type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
