Abstract
The research aims to identify the features characterising the functioning of historical figures’ personal names in written sources of the Tatar language of the XVII-XVIII centuries. The paper is novel in that it is the first to give a lexical description and classification of historical figures’ personal names belonging to the Tatar anthroponymicon of the XVII-XVIII centuries. Historical proper names in written artifacts of the Tatar language contribute to artistic images creation in those works, reflect a historical era. As a result of the analysis, it was found that historical proper names are a means of transmitting ethnocultural information in the Tatar people’s views, a reflection of a writer’s linguistic worldview, as well as a source of studying the Tatar language vocabulary.
