Abstract
The article examines the main areas of activity for the development of zemstvo farms Kharkov province. The effectiveness of local boards solving the basic economic, social, cultural and everyday problems of the rural population, traced the main directions of socio-economic activity of local institutions. It is noted in the post-reform Kharkiv province zemstvo actively influence the economic development of the province. Zemstvo largely determines the dynamics of the farm, the main forms of social and economic organization, geography and its place and share in the economy of the province. These activities create the necessary zemstvo both objective and subjective conditions for market transformation of the entire economy of the province. In the post-reform period, growing relationship with the market increased the role of money in life in Kharkiv province and gave rise to them needing to search additional sources of income. As result of these processes and activities zemstvo Kharkiv for the years 1861-1917 was one of the main regions of commodity agriculture in the Russian Empire, with a distinct specialization in the production of grain and sugar beets.
