Abstract

There is very scarce data on the Xantophyta algae in the water bodies of Siberia. Any oil and gas region requires monitoring biological diversity of the aquatic environment. This paper assesses species wealth, frequency of species occurrence, distribution of species along the Vakh River, and environmental conditions for yellow-green algae in the plankton of the Vakh River in Western Siberia. The author has used classical algology methods for the study to identify 8 Xantophyta species of 6 genera, 5 families, 2 classes in accordance with the new nomenclature. Five species have not been previously indicated for watercourses of the Middle Ob area, including Isithmochloron trispnatum, Tetraedriella spinigera, Ophiocytium lagerheimii, Characiopsis naegelii and Pseudostaurastrum hastatum. The algae identified in the Vakh River are very rare or individual, without affecting the development of the total plankton biomass. Xantophyta algae grow in the Vakh River during the warm season, from mid-June until September, with waters warming up from 11 ° to 25 °C, the transparency of water being 19-75 cm, the water color index being 75-196, pH 5.7-7.8, BOD 5 0.8-5.45 mg/l , iron level 0.6-1.6 mg/l.
