Abstract

The article deals with the methodological problem of determining the author as a social being at the stage of pretranslation. To identify the author’s worldview and tactics of his social behavior, the article suggests a way to successively relativize national (ethno-cultural) stereotypes at the distanced, medium-distanced and close levels. The English and Buryat media discourse and the corresponding authors Owen Jones and Bair Tsyrenov serve as an illustration of the algorithm application. The theoretical basis of the research is I.S. Alekseeva's translation strategy, P.P. Dashinimayeva's typology of requirements for literary translation where regional languages of Russia are used, I.A. Yakoba's theory of cognitive-communicative parametrization of media discourse, M.M. Bakhtin's idea of stereotypes’ interrelatedness, and N.V. Sorokina's concept of ethno-cultural stereotype relativization.
