Abstract

X-ray microanalysis was carried out on the highly radioactive fallout particles originating from the first Chinese nuclear test explosion. Confirmation was obtained on the presence of seven metallic elements, Fe, Ca, Si, Al, K, Mn and Ti in the particles. It was found that the four elements Fe, Ca, Si and Al were the main constituent metallic elements and that the particle color increased its darkness with Fe composition. X-ray scanning images suggested that in some cases these elements were not distributed evenly in the particles. The present of X-ray microanalysis revealed charactoristics somewhat different from the Soviet fallout particles collected in autumn 1962, which may be due to difference in conditions of explosion.
