Abstract

Parkinson's disease, together with the other two major age-related neurodegenerative diseases Alzheimer's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, impose a huge economic and emotional burden that will increase greatly as people live longer. Understanding how specific sets of neurons are lost in these disorders has become one of the major imperatives of biomedical research.
