Abstract

Coronavirus started as a virus of unknown origin, dangerous to human health, which quickly spread around the world causing the largest pandemic of modern times. Information on the coronavirus was scarce, as were the methods of controlling and treating the disease. One of the known facts was the way the disease is transmitted, that is from human to human through droplets. Given this, the instructions given that had to be followed by all mankind were very specific and aimed mainly at trying to limit the spread of the virus, until the most effective method of treatment is found. Therefore, social distancing was the only weapon in the humanity quiver. As a result, all people were called to change all their habits regarding their social behavior and their daily activities. In particular, people were asked to stay at home as long as possible, movement was reduced to a minimum for essentials. Shops, leisure facilities, as well as sports facilities were closed to avoid overcrowding and the employees that had the ability, worked from home. Even schools were shut down in order to prevent the spread of the Coronovirus. It is expected that all these changes have affected the lives of all people in various ways, especially the students’, as they are at an age characterized by the existence of a special and changeable mentality. Purpose: To investigate the possible impact of the SARS-CoV-2 (Coronovirus) pandemic on Primary school students. Method: Data collection with the use of a questionnaire, which includes close-ended and open-ended questions and their subsequent processing and analysis using the IBM SPSS Statistics 20 tool. Results: The students, as total, seem to have been significantly affected by the Coronοvirus Pandemic. Almost everyone knows the hygiene rules that should be followed and most of them were informed by their family. In terms of employment activities, most of the people spent their time on the tablet and / or mobile phone. The interaction with relatives and friends has been eliminated and replaced with the help of technology by video calling. Significant changes can be seen in the sleeping habits of the students, as the time that the students went to bed was extended, during the pandemic, from 8-10 at night to 10-12 pm or even after 12 pm. Correspondingly, a change is noticed in the total duration of sleep, where from 8-10 hours before the pandemic, the average is more than 10 hours during the pandemic. Most students missed school a lot, but they missed their friends unlike most of all. Lastly, on an emotional level, most people felt happy the most days and sad for less than the half days. The feeling of anxiety was not felt by the most, however, the 1/4 of the students were afraid that something bad might happen to them or their family. The feeling of boredom was quite common with most students stating that they felt bored every day. Conclusions: The collection and analysis of data showed that the Coronovirus pandemic has greatly affected the living conditions of primary school students.
