Abstract

Poly (vinyl alcohol)-ethylene glycol (PVA-EG) composites were geared up using casting method. The PVA-EG composite films have been irradiated at various γ-rays irradiation doses and nitrogen ion beam. The optical and structural properties of the irradiated PVA-EG composites have been investigated using UV–Vis, FTIR and XRD analytical techniques. UV–Vis study illustrates the change in the optical band gap energy of the investigated samples. XRD investigations show several changes in the structure, crystal structure, intensity and position of the characteristic peaks for PVA-EG composite samples. The optical and structural properties were greatly dependent on the type of irradiation, extent of irradiation and exposure time.
