Abstract

In the present paper, the applicability of the sulphatization process for the differential flotation of Pb/Zn ores was discussed. In this method, a Pb/Zn bulk concentrate is partly sulphatized, followed by the depression of galena during sphaleritefl otation.First of all, the conditions required for sulphatization of galena and sphalerite were studied independently from the flotation aspects. The optimum conditions of the sulphatization treatment for differential flotation purpose were found to be 30°C, and 7-10 minutes of retention, with 17% H2SO4. Under these conditions, galena was sulphatized only slightly and thus resulted in complete depression in the consequent flotation step. Meanwhile, te dissolution of sphalerite proceeds only slightly.and showed a satisfactory flotation behavior after activated with copper sulphate.Based on the experimental results mentioned above, a series of the differential flotation tests was done using an artificial Pb/Zn mixture. From the results obtained, it is presumed that the separation of Pb/Zn ores is satisfactorily achievable by asulphatization-flotation method.
