Abstract

1) The process of the germination of Gelidium Amansii Lmx. was studied by the indoor culture under the various conditions of water temperature, specific gravity of water (used for the cultivation) and wave-length of light. 2) The optimum temperature for the germination was about 25-26°C, above which the sporelings were unhealthy in general, while below which very healthy. (Table 1, ) 3) The growth of the sporelings were observed in the sea-water with specific gravity as small as 1.0105. But the length of primary rhizoids was remarkably affected by specific gravity of the water. (Table 2, 3) 4) The growth was delayed by monochromatic light at the begining of the germination, while when the germination was a little advanced, blue-green light made it grow more rapidly and strongly than white light.
