Abstract
Experiments on γ-ray leakage through a slit in lead shield were conducted as part of mock-up tests for shielding to be provided on the first Japanese nuclear propelled ship. The dry shielding test facility in JRR-4 was utilized for the experiments.Experimental results are reported for straight slits, with data covering γ-ray leakage as function of slit width, beam incident angle and of positions of measurement. A semi-empirical method is proposed for estimating the dose rate distribution of the streaming component.
