Abstract

The main problem of food security in Armenia is to provide the population with bread and bakery products in sufficient quantity and quality. This problem has always remained pertinent due to Armenia’s limited self-sufficiency in grain production. At present, the Russian Federation is the only exporter of grain to Armenia. Of course, such a monopoly position presents inherent risks, but the geopolitical position of Armenia and the development trends of interstate economic and political ties show that the main source of filling the deficit in demand for wheat today and in the near future is imports from the Russian Federation. Therefore, it is necessary to treat trade and economic relations with the Russian Federation and the EAEU with respect and wisdom, while drawing lessons from historical experiences. This paper highlights the state of production and export of wheat in the Russian Federation, as well as trends in the development of trade relations with Armenia.
