Abstract

In order to clarify the interfacial stiffness due to partial contact between upper and lower crack surfaces, the interfacial stiffness is derived from the relationship between effective pressure (difference between the earth stress normal to crack and fluid pressure in the crack) and the permeability, of crack. This relationship is based on the power law distribution model. The interfacial stiffness consists of the ratio of real contact area to crack area, effective pressure and so on. The ratio of real contact area to crack area has strong effect on interfacial stiffness in the case of smooth crack surface. And also, effects of these parameters on dynamic response of the crack are shown.
