전문대학 기초학습능력 향상 방안: D 대학 사례를 중심으로

Abstract

대학생 기초학습능력 미흡은 대학교육의 질 저하를 초래한다는 점에서 전문대학이 안고 있는 주요 이슈 중의 하나이다. 그동안 기초학습능력 향상을 위해 많은 대학에서 노력해 왔으나 해결책이나 개선방안이 뚜렷하지 못한 실정이다. 본 논문은 기초학습능력을 개선하려는 선행연구들이 시도한 노력의 연장선상에서 관련 문헌들을 고찰하고, 국내 전문대학의 기초학습능력 지원 및 운영사례를 벤치마킹하였다. 또한, D 대학을 대표사례로 선정하고 기초학습능력 수준에 대한 교수들의 인식 및 학생의 자기진단, FGI(Focus Group Interview) 등을 실시하여 기초학습능력 향상을 위한 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 선행연구들과 마찬가지로 D 대학의 경우에도 기초학습능력(언어영역)에 대한 교수들의 기대 및 현재 수준 간 차이가 있었으며, 학생들의 사전 자기진단 역시 유사한 결과를 보였다(교수 기대수준 3.13, 교수 현재수준 2.14, 학생 자기진단 2.37). 본 연구수행을 통해 도출된 문제점과 시사점을 토대로, 역량기반 교육과정으로의 개편(전공교과와 기초핵심역량과의 연계, 기초핵심역량 습득을 위한 교수법 적용, 기초학습역량 교과목 운영), 기초학습 미흡 학생 지도 개선(언어능력 향상을 위한 교수-학습법 적용, 수준별 교수-학습 자료개발, 자기주도적 학습법 전파, 전공동아리 활성화) 및 기초학습능력 진단 평가 시스템 구축(타당도 높은 진단도구 개발 및 적용, 긍정적 진단문화 형성)을 개선방안으로 제안하였다. A lack of basic academic skills of junior college students has negatively impacted on the quality of vacational education and student dropout prevention, and yet it is true that there still are unclear alternatives or solutions to come up with that concern. As a way to find out the actual levels of basic academic skills of junior college students and educational efforts to improve these skills, the study investigated prior studies and benchmarked strengths and weaknesses of the related educational programs and supporting systems operated by ten junior colleges around the nation. Further, the study addressed emerging issues and challenges related to basic academic skills, based on the case study of D college. Major research methodologies included literature review, surveys for students and faculty members and focus-group interviews of faculty members in order to examine the states of students' basic academic skills in the area of language, in particular. Accordingly, the study proposed several suggestions with which educational practitioners could assist in supporting students to acquire improved basic academic skills(such as the development of a competence-based curriculum, implementation of reliable diagnosis tools and supporting educational systems for evaluating students' basic academic skills and upgrading of diverse teaching and learning resources and methods).
