Abstract
Physical region ππ crossing sum rules are systematically derived, several new rules being obtained. In conjunction with finite energy sum rules they are applied to the results of recent ππ phase-shift analyses. It is found not possible to resolve the ambiguities in the phase-shift solutions. We examine the imaginary part of the rho Regge exchange amplitude and find this to have a zero near t = −0.4 GeV 2. We determine separately the structure of the imaginary part of the pomeron and of the f exchange amplitude; whilst there is insufficient information to carry out this separation uniquely, rho-f-exchange degeneracy is found to be broken. The greatest uncertainties come from the poorly known low-energy isospin-two amplitudes.
