Abstract

The article explores gender equality and women's empowerment related to Ukraine's 2030 Sustainable Development Goal 5. The article explores the concept of women's empowerment and highlights the ways in which indicators related to this Goal in education, employment and political participation can contribute to this. Gender equality and women's empowerment is the fifth of Ukraine's seventeen sustainable development goals. It is an internal rather than an instrumental goal, clearly valued as an end in itself and not as a tool to achieve other goals. The Sustainable Development Goals build on advances in gender equality to ensure that discrimination against women and girls around the world ends. In some regions, there are still huge inequalities in the labor market, and women are denied equal access to jobs. Sexual abuse and exploitation, unequal distribution of unpaid childcare and domestic work, and discrimination in the public service continue to be formidable obstacles. Giving women equal rights to economic resources such as land and property is vital in the context of realizing this goal. Equally important is ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health care. Today, more women hold public office than ever, but rewarding women leaders will help strengthen policies and legislation to enhance gender equality.
